In 2015 we made a promise to grow the economy by investing in the middle class and those working hard to join it. I am proud to say that this is a promise we have delivered on. By investing in youth, supporting the skilled trades, and developing new incentives for women to join the workforce, our government has helped Canadians create over one million new jobs. Good jobs support families and strengthen our communities, so it is especially good news that over three quarters of these new jobs are full time.
Our plan is delivering real results here in BC, where we have had the lowest unemployment rate in Canada for nearly two years straight now. In fact, just last month 16,800 jobs were added in BC, which works out to over 500 new jobs being created every day. In total more than one in five of the new jobs that have been created since 2015 have been created in BC.
There is still more work to be done. That is why in Budget 2019 we are continuing to invest in people, with the creation of up to 60,000 student work placements and the Canadian Training Benefit, to ensure people have the skills they need to continue to succeed long in to the future.
For now though let’s celebrate the creation of over one million new jobs!
